Frequently Asked Question
Is membership in other professional organizations permitted?
Kappa Alpha Pi welcomes members who are involved in other campus organizations, including professional and academic societies. As a professional fraternity, KAPi values broad engagement and encourages members to pursue interests across government, law, and public service.
However, due to the structured nature of professional organizations, Kappa Alpha Pi does not permit overlapping new member education with other professional fraternities. Candidates may participate in multiple recruitment processes, but may not complete new member education for two professional fraternities simultaneously.
All members are expected to meet Kappa Alpha Pi requirements in full. New member expectations are not modified to accommodate overlapping professional commitments.
Must I be pursuing a traditional path in government or law to apply?
No. Kappa Alpha Pi values a range of academic interests and professional aspirations. While government and law are central to the fraternity’s mission, they are understood broadly to include policy, leadership, governance, and related fields.
Members often pursue varied paths and apply their interests in different ways. Kappa Alpha Pi provides an environment that supports exploration, preparation, and professional growth across both traditional and nontraditional trajectories.
What year must I be to join?
Kappa Alpha Pi primarily recruits freshmen and sophomores. Juniors are considered only in limited circumstances, such as transfer students or applicants whose academic or professional background aligns closely with the fraternity’s mission.
This structure allows the chapter to maintain continuity while supporting meaningful member development over time.
Does Kappa Alpha Pi haze its potential new members?
No. Kappa Alpha Pi strictly prohibits hazing in any form. The fraternity is fully compliant with Vanderbilt University’s hazing policy, Kappa Alpha Pi National’s anti-hazing policy, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
The new member process is structured around education, professional development, and accountability, and is designed to uphold a safe, respectful, and lawful environment for all participants.
What are the fraternity dues for Kappa Alpha Pi?
Kappa Alpha Pi dues are structured to support chapter operations and provide members with access to national and local programming.
New Member Dues
$50 (KAPi National) + $200 (Vanderbilt Chapter)
Active or Inactive Member Dues
$10 (KAPi National) + $200 (Vanderbilt Chapter)
Remote Member Dues

Kappa Alpha Pi is committed to ensuring that financial considerations do not prevent qualified candidates from participating, and flexible payment arrangements may be available. The Vanderbilt chapter maintains a high standard of financial transparency, with dues allocation and chapter finances communicated clearly to members.
Kappa Alpha Pi Recruitment Eligibility and Conduct Policy
Kappa Alpha Pi maintains a zero tolerance standard for conduct that undermines the integrity, safety, or professionalism of the organization. Any behavior inconsistent with the fraternity’s values, including harassment, violence, discrimination, sexual misconduct, academic dishonesty, or misconduct during the recruitment process, will result in immediate removal from consideration.
As a pre professional fraternity grounded in integrity, accountability, and mutual trust, Kappa Alpha Pi does not consider applicants who are currently subject to an active Title IX investigation, Honor Council proceeding, or criminal matter. To ensure a recruitment process in which all members are able to participate fully and comfortably, individuals involved in such proceedings are ineligible for consideration and will be removed from the process if applicable.
Applicants who are subsequently cleared of all allegations or whose matters are formally dismissed may reapply during a future recruitment cycle.
